Does anybody know what kind of bass guitar Stu Cook played? Im pretty sure it was a Fender, judging by the pictures of the head. Is it a Precission, Jazz, etc. bass guitar tho? I would really like to know.

The first bass was that one he had to buy when JCF told him "..from now on you are the bassplayer. Get a bass". Stu was playing piano until then. I forgot about the name "St.George?", or something like that.
In the Ed Sullivan show (1969) playing Proud Mary and Bad Moon Rising I think he is using a Gibson Modell. In fact on Bayou Country he uses the Rickenbaker 4001 which you can see on the LP Cover. After that, and for most of the CCR Fotos Videos and stuff, he uses a Fender Precission with some modifications. |

Sorry, just saw the ES Show. Stu is playing the 4001 Ric Modell during Proud Mary. Even Tom plays a Ric. But I?m sure there is a tape in my collection that shows Stu playing a Gibson bass. I?ll let you know :-))

Stu's Basses
These are the facts:
Stu rented his first bass, probably a Fender or something. The first bass he owned was a 1966 Rickenbacker 4001. He also had a nicely painted 1965 Fender Jazz Bass in the Golliwogs days. In the early CCR-days he had a Gibson SG-Bass (EB-3) before he switched to the 1968 Fender Precision Bass. The Fender had an extra P-bass pickup in the bridge postition and he took the Rickenbacker neck-pickup and put in the neck position. He even had a Kay M-1 upright bass to record 'Green River'! |
