Default John and Tom's Post-CCR Relationship

Why was John and Tom's relationship and brothers so strained after Tom left the band? After all John was credited for playing on Tom's "Zepher National" album in 1973.

Today band's usually replacements for departed band members by John Fogerty didn't do this in 1971 after Tom left. Was John growing tired of playing with CCR and wanted to move on?
