I think it's about any place you call home and that is familiar.

John Confirmed this in an interview around the time Blue Moon Swamp came out. The Fogerty's while growing up used to go there on camping trips. the title of the song "green river" came from a soda can or bottle? that was made back then.

Green River is a river in southern California, and runs through Corona, which is right next to El Cerrito where Creedence is from.

I heard an interview on one of the rock stations from the bay area about 2 years ago. Fogerty said there is a place called putah creek that comes out of berryessa where we used to hang out. and the water always had a green color to it. This blew me away , I moved from Hayward to Vacaville knowing I'd be flyfishing there ,
I saw CCR at Winterland 1968 and have always counted that tune as one of my favorites. I was at the Shoreline to see him and Mellencamp ; Fogerty was fabulous Mellencamp was great till his voice faded.

I have always enjoyed Swamp River Days, since it, to me, is a remake of Green River. And it also contains at least two mentions of John's Creedence days.

Cody River, playin' on the radio/
Takes me back to a girl I used to know/
Sweet Susie do you think about me?/
That was as good as its ever gonna be/
Gimme those Swamp River Days again/

Plus, Green River and Swamp River Days start very similarly. Listen to the first 20 seconds of each, back to back.
