Hi, there!!
Oh, just to give details on the "Italian" Lodi... it is not exactly near to Assisi, it's actually only 25 km south-east of Milano, which means some 430 km from Assisi... also Lodi isn't specifically "small", being close to 55.000 inhabitants... I feel the 23 Mar, 2004 post mixed-up with the small town of Todi which fits with description i.e. ancient and relatively close to Assisi (about 70 km)... Apart from that the "Italian" Lodi certainly has nothing to do with the lovely CCR song. Bye |

Lodi (pronounced LOW-dee or LOW-die) is the name of several places and a dynasty in India:
in Italy: Lodi, Italy, in the Province of Lodi of the Lombardy region. The Treaty of Lodi was made in 1454 between Italian city-states. The Battle of Lodi was fought at the town on 10 May 1796, and involved forces under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte against Austrian troops under General Sebottendorf. in the United States of America: Lodi, California Lodi, Michigan Lodi, New Jersey Lodi (village), New York Lodi (town), New York Lodi, Ohio Lodi, Wisconsin Lodi (town), Wisconsin Lodi Township, Michigan Lodi Township, Minnesota I got these from wikipedia! |

I had alway thought that he said "low dive"
I had alway thought that he said "low dive".
in Aussie that's a place that is pretty run down, especially like a old club or pub that is nearly always empty. I don't know whether you guys have that expression in USA, but it sure fits into the songs theme really well. But if John the song writer has not disputed the Lodi in California theory then it must be right. I like my idea better. Dave |
