Hi,
John Fogerty once said he wrote "Proud Mary" just after he got a letter wich said he wouldn't have to go to the army any longer. He was so happy that he had to wrote this song, he said. He said this in VH-1 Storytellers. bye. |

It seems like Proud Mary is a name for a boat, talks about a river and the big wheel that keeps on turnin...

Proud Mary is about a poor working woman and the tribulations she's gone through yet she still maintains her dignity.

The correct lyric is "Pumped a lot pain down in New Orleans" not tane. Now I honestly don't know what it means. All I know is that it is one awesome song!!! I hope you have a nice day and ROCK ON!!!

In this song he mentions having a few odd jobs, such as cleanin' plates in Memphis. The lyrics are 'tane, not pain. What he is saying here is that he pumped a lot of gas, tane being short for octane, a slang word for gas.
CCR, still great. |
