Who was Jody, anyway?

The name Jody appears in several Fogerty songs:

It came out of the sky ("Jody fell off of his tractor...")

Hey tonight ("Jody's gonna get religion...")

Almost Saturday Night ("Jody's gone to the rodeo...")

Any idea who Jody was? An imaginary figure? Someone from John's life?
