This is one of my favorite songs but i never did understand the lyrics. I beilive one verse refers to slavery. Also did Richmond really blow up?

It was a song John wrote from a idea that can from a tiff with his wife.
Wrote a song for everyone, but couldnt even talk to you (him/her) BT

I love this song, it is one of my alltime favorites! I posted a topic on it a while ago ("The meaning of Wrote a song for everyone?"), you can find it under "lyrics". "Music Girl" posted a pretty intersting interview where John talked about it.

It is a ballad of the civil war, at least thats how i interpret it. looking at the lyrics and comparing them with my own expirence as a historian, I can see many similaritys. I wrote a comprehensive list of these elsewher on
this site, in the topic that Becca D. posted
