Default 2 January 1971 - American Top 40

The American Top 40 radio show for 2 January 1971 was the 80-41 top hits of 1970. The following week Casey Kasem finished the countdown playing 40-1.

CCR had two songs played on 2 January 1971. At number 73 for the year was the double sided hit Up Around The Bend/Run Through The Jungle.

"The number 73 record of the year is a two sided hit by a group that bought a 32 foot diesel powered boat a few months ago and gave it to the Indians who are occupying Alcatraz Island so they'd have a way of bringing in food, water and medical supplies. The Indians christened the boat "Clearwater" after the donors, Creedence Clearwater Revival.

"The number one group of 1969, the number one album artists of 1970 with the hit Up Around the Bend that's 73A by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

This is Casey on American Top 40 and here's the group that's been played more often this year on America's jukeboxes than any other recording act. That's what it meant to be named Artists of the Year by the National Association of Jukebox Operators. They have two records among the Top 80 of 1970. This one at number 73 is a double sided hit and we just heard the other side - Up Around The Bend. Now, here's Run Through The Jungle. Your listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival at number 73."
