Default Look Back: John Fogerty's Comeback Album Tops Chart 26 Years Ago

(RTTNews) - Former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty reached the top of the charts with his solo album "Centerfield" on March 23, 1985.

The album marked Fogerty's first studio effort in a decade. Following the poor sales of his self-titled effort from 1975, his record company rejected his next effort, and Fogerty took a long hiatus from recording.

"Centerfield" featured the title track and the single "The Old Man Down The Road," a tune that sparked a lawsuit from the owner of Fantasy Records. Fantasy claimed that "The Old Man Down The Road" was too similar to the Creedence song "Run Through The Jungle," also written by Fogerty. At the trial, Fogerty played his guitar and explained the differences between the two, ultimately leading to his victory.

"Centerfield" took over number one from "Make It Big" by Wham! and held on for a week. It gave up the top spot to Phil Collins' "No Jacket Required."
