Ease up on the man folks! John Fogerty is a musical genius and my most favorite musical artist of all time. His protest song "Fortunate Son" absolutely describes how many of us Vietnam era veterans felt at the time. Most of us were not fortunate sons who could refuse induction, as did Cassius Clay and Bill Clinton, and get by with it. Nor were we able to get favored son treatment and avoid active military service by joining the National Guard as did George Bush. Fortunate Son is just one man's opinion of how the rich, powerful and politically connected can avoid putting their ass on the line for this nation like the rest of us have to. His new song "Deja Vu" is sending the same message as "Fortunate Son" and is right on the mark again. Who do you think is serving in our military today? The sons and daughters of the rich, powerful and politically connected? Not hardly! Pat Tillman excepted. The rich, powerful and politically connected make the decisions that send the rest of us off to die and Fogerty hit the nail on the head with both these songs.
Now, having said all of that; here's a bit more. Please understand that I am a former soldier that enlisted in the US Army and volunteered for duty in Vietnam. I served 23 years in the military and retired as a Major in 1989. I work for the Army today as a civilian contractor and may be deploying to Iraq very soon. I work with soldiers every day. I was, and still am, a supporter of President Bush. I was enough of a supporter when he was elected as Governor of Texas that I was invited to, and attended, his inaugural ball. I supported him in his first campaign for President and I still support him today. I don't necessarily agree with all his political decisions and I had my doubts about our going into Iraq. I still do. It seemed like "Deja Vu all over again" to me. However, when I look at the other possible candidates, Bush is the only way I could go. I would much rather be decisively engaging the enemy in his homeland than sitting here waiting to be hit on our own soil. It's the only way to fight a war. Tear up the other guys country instead of your own. The Republicans, being businessmen, understand that concept. The Democrats just don't get it. I respect John Kerry for his service in Vietnam, although it may not have been quite as honorable as he would have us believe. I fault George Bush for his not-quite-as-honorable-as-it-could-have-been service in the National Guard. But at least they both served!!! Bill Clinton refused induction and as far as I am concerned is a criminal and deserves to do prison time. However, I do not make political decisions on the basis of one issue. I look at the whole situation and try to decide who would be the overall best leader for the country. For the here and now I have decided that the best person of those available is George Bush. None of this has anything to do with John Fogerty and his music. His Creedence days produced the best songs I have ever heard and I still have all my old LP albums from that time. I listen to them often. I relate to John's music and the two protest songs previously mentioned definitely strike a chord with many people in this nation today just as much as in the late 60s and 70s. Our national leadership should listen to them and pay attention. Our war in Iraq is over and it's time to come home. The Iraqi people can then sort out what type of government they want. If the UN wants to get involved, then so be it but let the rest of the world police and supervise the formation of a new government in Iraq. We have done our portion and paid the price in the blood of our soldiers. It's time for someone else to bleed. Rock on John Fogerty!

Fish 15.10.2004 10:02

I'll still listen to CCR and some Fogerty music but I'll be damned if im buying the new cd (which is a peice of shit) anyhow!..... As far as the Anti-bush concert goes ? To hell with them! Im sick and tired of these ****ing entertainers thinking they have the right to tell us who to vote for!

Anonymous 09.11.2004 17:16

AND WHAT IS SO BAD BY JOINING SPRINGSTEEN? ARE YOU A BUSH-FANATIC WITH NO OWN OPINION?

JOHNFAN 09.11.2004 17:23

to the anonymus posted that he would boycott john fogerty: for what ? going for john kerry and not for g. w. bush?

That is no reason for boycotting, because since when people are boycotting for doning the right thing?

On the other side, mr kerry should be happy, he will not be washed away by mr. president`s shit!

reddustyroads 02.12.2004 20:42

Hello John: Been a CCR and John Fogarty fan since the 60's, and have all the albums, tapes, and cd's.
Just wondering why you havent played Foxwoods Casino, or Mohegan Sun Casino here in CT?? If you have, and I missed it, kick me. Thanks for your time on this one.

Anonymous 16.12.2004 04:44

I'm a Dutch Fogerty-fan. It's great to hear John is coming to Amsterdam for two concerts in 2005. For those guys who wanted to boycot Fogerty for he was part of the Vote for Change tour I only can say: "Come on guys. Act like adults not as a child. Cause he don't share your political opinion, you want to boycot the man? On his new album there is only one political song (Deja vu) and this one is simular to Who'll stop the rain which you didn't boycot. Fogerty is anti-war. Like the rest of the world should be. A Dutch artist once said: "There was a war and no one went." It's the only change to get peace on this earth. Tell this to Mr. Bush. So come on people. John is a great musician with it's own opinion. And should be the right of every living creature in this world.

I agree with Fish when he says that The Last Fogerty?s CD is a piece of shit, but don?t agree with the rest he said. They?re only expressing their opinion!! You don?t have to agree with them, but that?s no reason for boycotting!!

Anonymous 27.01.2005 02:47

Stu Cook and Doug Clifford voted by Bush. I think Tom also would have voted by Bush. Back to that again !!!. Even tho?I like the song Fortunate Son.

RE: John Fogerty's Political ideas.

John may be a left winger but who cares about that. When you listen to music it should be about the sound and how well it is composed and arranged. I am so damn far to the right of the political spectrum it scares me but i still love John Fogerty's music and I always will.

Anonymous 04.04.2005 16:14

Damn it John. You have to come to Edmonton Alberta Canada so all of us Right Wing Farmers can drive into the city and see a darn good show.

JOHN FOGERTY ,probably the greatest american songwriter & also a complete musician . He is THE REAL SON Of America. How can you compare this liar stupid & criminal guy called 'Colon'Bush' with a humble wise guy like JOHN FOGERTY ? JOHN prooves many times since 1968 his attachment to a deepest America. His fabulous voice , his fantastics songs & his lyrics have not only touch this country but also the rest of the world .CREEDENCE music was for people of every colour . Black ,White ,Yellow ,Red . I have even found some CCR records in Jamaica. The world needs a better USA. It can never happen with the hypocrite 'bush'. I just want to thank JOHN FOGERTY for all the pleasure he gaves on this earth since the early days of 1968. OA

Anonymous 05.04.2005 20:58

Wow! He joined him? I love his music but now .... ....all & everything associated with it.... ...I love it even more.
It is the natural choice to oppose Bush - & what did u expect after Fortunate Son, Who'll stop the rain and Run through the jungle...

But you're right - the bad moon really has risen thanx to the elections...

EPad3 06.07.2005 22:41

I don't care if John Fogarty voted for John Kerry or GWB, or Conway Twitty. The first time I heard Deja Vu (all over again) and saw the video I nearly broke down. John Fogarty's music talked to me when I was 18 and facing the canon, and he talks to me now. Anyone who can't see parallels between Vietnam and Iraq is blind and naive. Fogarty's vision in Deja Vu is crystal clear. I just heard two Johns play together in Pittsburgh - Fogarty and Mellencamp - and I was blown away by their love of this country and its people. Fogarty writes songs about what's right and wrong about this place, and that's the way it should be.

18.12.2005 02:08

Whoever wrote that can Go Fu** themselves. It's not that john fogerty has become a jerk, YOU have become
a jerk. George Bush is trying to destroy the happy, Peaceful world that Creedence, as well as all of there fans hoped to live in somday. Bush is just another fourtunate son, just like the jerk in the song. he lives of of his
daddy's money and dosent care about anything but Money and Oil. You should have voted for Nader. if everyone did that we would have a good, clean Goverment. to the Jerks that have posted the last two comments I say this on the behalf of every peace loving CCR fan:I AINT NO FOURTUNATE SON, I AINT NO FOURTUNATE SON, I AINT NO FOUTUNATE SON, I AINT NO FOURTUNATE SON,I AINT NO FOURTUNATE SON...

joel 21.12.2005 13:39

what's with all the capital letters? does it make you feel important? well I've got news for you: Your are NOT!!
and what has john's political opinion to do with his music?! And who's being a jerk, visiting a creedence fan page and write crap about john!? If people still after more than 30 years still get happy by his music, doesn't that say that creedence is something special?

your choice, your loss.

Anonymous 22.12.2005 00:38

Hi, I wonder if some opinions cross the line of choice. In a free country we have a choice, and that
is what freedom is. So let us practice the right. BUT, an opinion is only as good as the amount of
info backing it up. If everone did their homework their opinions would have more credibility.
My opinion is music is a powerfull media of expresion or opinion. Take it or leave it, you have a choice.
Bush does what he's told...by his advisors (like dangerous Dick Cheney)
(on line, "Cheney's War") criminal... An outsiders point of view, BT (from Canada)

Anonymous 12.01.2006 12:46

I love CCR music, and Johns 1st two solo albums Centerfield and Eye of the zombie, but dunno about the rest of you, I think thats where his good music stopped. I was very disapointed in blue moon swamp

Mary Lou 08.02.2006 18:33

George Bush junior likes Creedence. It's his very favourite band. I know it's true - I SAW IT ON TV!!;)
I understand music can't be apart from politics. But beg from you - DIVIDE them! Let your mind think about politics & your heart should be dealing with music!..
To boycott a good man/woman for his/her convictions... You know it isn't even funny. It's just silly and absurd.
The elections in my country brought only blood, sweat & tears. Fights, injuries, law proceedings, political pressure, family envity, even divorces.... It's sad that some people act like political maniacs, and can abandon everything they previously loved.
Hope smb will understand what I was tryin' to say....

I recently went to see John Fogarty live in Australia(Nov 2005) and was apprehensive as to whether this now 60 year old might measure up to my memory of those halcyon days when he led CCR in a blaze of glory. They were "the" band and their original songs have stood the test of time. Back then my father had just died of cancer and we had compulsory conscription to serve in Vietnam, based on a lottery of birthdates for 19 year olds. If your marble was drawn you had to go, otherwise be thrown in jail. Thank God I missed out and was able to stay and support my mother and 4 sisters. Many of my mates went, some never came back and others returned as broken men. There were no winners and sadly no heroes from what ended up as a "dirty" war. They were the unfortunate realities of Vietnam.

It saddened me greatly when CCR broke up. Several years on I was thrilled when John brought out "The Old Man is down the road" and later "Centerfield" and "Deja Vu". It was vintage Fogarty so I remained optimistic he could still put on a top show in 2005. Was I disappointed........ HELL NO. It was the best concert I've seen, even better than Joe Cocker or AC~DC who were the best shows I've ever been to previously. John went non-stop for over 2 hours, played all the hits, his voice was as powerful as ever and his energy output and enthusiam were incredible.

And what were his best songs........ clearly for mine they were Fortunate Son and Deja Vu(All Over Again). Forget the bloody politics and listen to the lyrics. Just like the USA we are also heavily committed in Iraq with no end in sight. There is no such thing as a good war and for 19 year olds to lose their lives(regardless of which country or side they belong) is an absolute tragedy.

One by one I see the old ghosts rising
Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy
Where the light gets dim
Day after day another Momma's crying
She's lost her precious child
To a war that has no end

And you know what really made the Fogarty concert for me? Well, I have 6 kids aged from 27 down to 6 years old. We took the youngest and she danced and rocked the whole show long........ it was unbelievable. Adults were coming up to take turns of dancing with her. Obviously she had inherited my rock genes!

Than you John Fogarty........ you are every bit the legend I first heard some 39 years ago!!!
