Well it seems to be about 'checking out' (for good that is), going 'home'.


As for what made JCF write it, idk, he wrote several songs with a biblical undertone to them. Through the late 70s and 80s he recorded several gospel songs.


Bad Moon Rising was a warning of the future wrapped in a cheerful upbeat tune. (i would say it got it right by what ive seen in the last decade)

Runnin' Through The Jungle was about 'the old man', that is the Devil and the vietnam war.
