You have to remember that the song was written during the Vietnam War. And this is one of the few prostest songs by CCR. So the line is reffering to the fact that at the time in Vietnam there were 200 million guns loaded.

To be more specific on this question... was 200 million the number of soldiers involved? (from which sides?) Was is 200 million injuries? 200 million round of ammo? Or just an abstract number? Where specifically did the number 200 million come from? 200 million is a huge number, I sincerely would like a true answer to this question, as I am major CCR fan with many friends who were in Vietnam.

probably 200 million guns referring to all guns in vietnam or it could be just the vietnamese. ive heard on the history channel that the vietnamese outnumbered the U.S. soldiers 10 to 1.

Hi, there!!
I'm sorry, but I strongly suspect that the "200 million" is just a "big fat"
figure... it's just "right" to fit with the melody metrics and, at the same
time, to satisfy the lyrics meaning... "100 million" wouldn't have sounded
quite as good... and can you imagine "700 million"? No, no, two-hundred
was the ideal fitting, that's the only explanation, I think...
Bye

Me too I am thinking that the 200 millions are a lyric thing which might to get close to the fact.
Just to imagine that gun is not only meant as gun but also any kind of weapon that has been loaded during the war in Vietnam ( i.e. rocket launchers, tanks, grenades, bombs..etc. ). Just my two cents.

Its not about Viet Nam.

"I think a lot of people thought that because of the times, but I was talking about America and the proliferation of guns, registered and otherwise. I'm a hunter and I'm not antigun, but I just thought that people were so gun-happy -- and there were so many guns uncontrolled that it really was dangerous, and it's even worse now. It's interesting that it has taken 20-odd years to get a movement on that position."

John Fogerty on "Run Through the Jungle"
